PWDCA’s Owner Handler Award Program

The PWDCA’s Owner Handler Awards (OHA) is an annual program that awards competitive achievements of Owner Handlers in many AKC and PWDCA events (not just conformation). The purpose of the OHA Program is to encourage PWDCA members to actively participate in competitive events and activities by handling Portuguese Water Dogs owned or co-owned by them.

Participants earn points for qualifications or placements in various events and are ranked according to their total points in each category. Awards are presented to the top finishers in each category at the end of the OHA program year. There are three open categories and two restricted categories:

  • Open categories:
    • Performance (combined score from qualifications and placements in Agility, Obedience, Rally, Scent Work, Tracking, Water, and Other Titles*)
    • Conformation
    • All Venues Combined
  • Restricted categories:
    • Junior Showmanship
    • Rookie (those competing in OHA for the first time with their first PWD)

*Other Titles are various activities under the AKC Title Recognition Program such as Trick Dog, Barn Hunt, Dock Diving, and Canine Good Citizen.
