Judges Education

The PWDCA Judges Education Committee (JEC) is pleased to make available to all aspiring, provisional, and approved Portuguese Water Dog judges whatever information they may be searching for with regard to judging the Portuguese Water Dog. If you do not find what you are looking for on, or linked to this site, please do not hesitate to contact any of our Committee members.

The JEC is dedicated to formulating and holding effective, reliable and objective breed presentations via print, media, and seminars at Judges Education Events, Regional and National Specialties. The goal of the JEC is to hold and support such presentations in various areas of the United States in order to facilitate the needs of judges, with the end result of having better educated judges able to assess our breed.

Additionally, we offer Ringside Mentoring in conjunction with presentations. If at all possible, we will gladly make ringside mentoring available when requested.

We encourage all Portuguese Water Dog judges to attend one or more water trials to see our breed performing the type of work that was historically required of them. This will give the judge a better insight into the reasons for the conformation requirements as specified in our breed standard.

JEC Members:
Chair: Jean Hassebroek - Florida
Janice Reilly – North Carolina
Steve Dostie - Maine
Marilyn Rimmer - California

Scott Henley - Colorado

Note: We mail our Judges Education Packet to any judge who has not attended one of our current presentations, and who is listed in the AKC Gazette as applying for approval to judge the Portuguese Water Dog.

If you are a PWDCA member interested in becoming a Judge Mentor, find additional information on our Judge's Education Mentor Application (member's only).
