OptiGen for GM1 Testing

Beginning July 22, 2013, OptiGen will be the lab to submit DNA samples to be tested for the GM1 gene. Go to www.OptiGen.com for information on submitting samples and pricing. OptiGen is offering the test at the same price NYU charged ($120). Below is an example of the different discounts available when you submit one DNA sample for multiple tests at OptiGen.

GM1 Testing Update

The NYU Neurogenetics lab and the OptiGen lab are working together to make the transfer of technology seamless. OptiGen has the test ready to go; they are just waiting to get the licensing agreement settled with NYU. Barring any unexpected delays during the legal review of the licensing agreement, we expect uninterrupted availability of the GM1 test. With this in mind NYU will continue to accept samples for testing up to July 20, 2013, and beginning July 21, 2013 OptiGen will be accepting samples.

GM1 Health Testing Laboratory Changes

As a result of a restructuring, the Neurogenetics Laboratory at NYU will be closing in August of this year. And so, this ends our long and beneficial relationship with the Lab at NYU. After 13 years of genetic testing for Gangliosidosis (GM1) in the Portuguese Water Dog, we wish to thank Dr. Bai Jin Zeng, and Dr. Edwin Kolodny and the other scientists involved for isolating and identifying the gene mutation that causes this disease in our dogs, and for testing and reporting the results of our DNA samples over the years.
