Ethics Committee

The Ethics Committee started discussions in January of 2006 regarding the PWDCA Code of Ethics. The Committee was asked, in a shortened version, to:
- Re-evaluate the COE and propose modifications so that the ethical standards are specific, objective and measurable;
- Establish procedures for reporting, investigating and resolving complaints and violations;
- Devise incentives/sanctions.
The Committee reviewed the COEs from many other national breed clubs and discussed some of the widely-held practices. In addition, certain members consulted with behaviorists and veterinarians. Decisions were based, generally, on the experiences of the members of the committee. There were numerous discussions on the inclusion or non-inclusion of many provisions. Ultimately, in August, the Committee submitted a proposed revised COE to the PWDCA Board of Directors.
