COMMITTEE GOALS/STATUS

The primary goal of the Committee is to continue to produce a high quality publication for the membership, with strict adherence to budget. The Courier was again nominated in 2005 by the Dog Writer's Association of America for the Best National Breed Club Magazine in the country. This is the sixth straight year that The Courier has received this honor. At the awards ceremony in February 2006, the May/June 2005 Health issue was chosen by the Eukanuba/Iams Company for their Canine Health Award for the book that best promotes the health and well being of dogs. In addition, Kathryn Monroe's article "PWD Aggression: Can It Happen To You?" which appeared in the May/June 2005 Courier, won a Maxwell Award for Best National/International Club Magazine feature for the year 2005.

STATUS OF COURIER INDEXING PROJECT

Shelly Jakubowski reports: "I have 62 issues completed to-date. This covers from mid 1996 to the current issue. The data takes up nearly 5GB of space. Each of the issues has been indexed to include the name of the article, the author(s), and the page number reference. Reports can be run to show all articles in a particular issue or all articles by a particular author, etc. We had initially discussed including a brief summary of each article. The field is available in the database, so we can add it later if we choose to. However, once I decided to scan the articles into .PDF format, I felt this would provide us a better way to select keywords to search, than to hope I get the right words into a 1 or 2 sentence summary fields."

The Courier editor is working with the PWDCA Board to determine the best way to make this information available to the membership.
